      • Operation of the 1st helpline for domestic violence issues. The initiative started from a group of women coming from the organization Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities.
    • 1990
      • July 25th – The Founding Constituent Assembly for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family was held in Nicosia as non-Profit, non-Governmental Organization.
    • 1991
      • The Association becomes a member of the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council – PVCC.
    • 1994
      • The helpline receives a four – digit number, 1440.
    • 1997
      • Operation of the 1st Pancyprian shelter in Cyprus for battered women and their children.
    • 2003
      • The Association participates with a representative at the Cyprus Cinematographic Films Board, aiming at the classification, based on specific criteria, of the films that will be screened in cinemas.
    • 2004
      • The Association participates with a representative in the Parliament of the Elders as MP. Annual Sessions are organized by the Pancyprian’s Volunteerism Coordinative Council and are under the auspices of the President of the House, who presides over their work.
    • 2005
      • An agreement was signed between the Government and SPAVO, by which a plot of governmental land was allocated to SPAVO for the purpose of erecting a shelter for battered women and their children.
    • 2006
      • Award for Social Contribution from the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance.
    • 2007
      • The first treatment program for violent behavior called “Love Without Pain” started its implementation.
    • 2008
      • A Pancyprian campaign under the name “Parents and Teachers Against Violence” has started by the Association and lasted over a period of two years..

      • July – SPAVO was accepted as a Member of the Council of the National Machinery for Women’s Rights with the decision of the Council of Ministers.
    • 2010
      • The Association celebrated 20 years of social services.
      • The Association participates with a Representative at the Civil Society Synod as MP, in the House of Representatives and participates in the discussion of the proceedings of the Synod, in the presence of competent state officials and the Pancyprian’s Volunteerism Coordinative Council.

      • The Association participates as a Member of the Primary Committee of the Advertising Control Body.
    • 2012
      • Establishment of Consortium 116 111 and 116 000 between SPAVO and Hope for Children UNCRC Policy Center.
    • 2013
      • September – Signing a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Justice and the Public Order, “Hope for Children” UNCRC Policy Center and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Family Violence, in case of children’s disappearance.
    • 2014
      • Operation of the 2nd Pancyprian shelter for battered women and their children in the area of Pafos.
    • 2014
      • September – The construction of the Shelter for battered women and the Help Centre started.
    • 2015
      • The Association celebrated 25 years of its social services at the Presidential Palace.
    • 2016
      • September – The inoculation and the operation of the New privately owned Shelter and Help Center took place. The project was financed by the Norway Grants with the contribution of the Republic of Cyprus and OPAP Cyprus. The furnishing of the building was offered free by IKEA.
    • 2017
      • March – Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Cyprus Police and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), including the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Family Violence, for the protection and promotion of Human Rights.
      • April – By decision of the Council of Ministers, on 26/04/2017, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order will subsidize the SPAVO with an amount of €10,000 per year to extend the operation of the help / support line for the victims of violence across the country, to 24-hour basis from ΕΜΓΔ funds.
      • May – The Association and its 1440 and 116111 Support / Helpline Lines have been included in the “Manual of Interdepartmental Procedures for the Management of Child Violence in the Family” approved by the Council of Ministers on 25/05/2017, and was issued by ΣΕΠΚΒΟ and the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance.
      • September – By decision of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Labor, on 05/09/2017, approved the allocation of free tickets to persons hosted in Nicosia and Paphos Shelters, with the buses of the companies OSEL and OSYPA, respectively.
      • September – By decision of the Council of Ministries on 06/09/2017, the Ministry of Health will provide free medical care to the people hosted in SPAVO’s Shelters for the duration of their stay and will also exempt them from the payment of supplementary fees.
      • October – The Association is approved as a full member of the Youth Council of Cyprus at the 13th General Assembly of the Council held on 23 October 2017.
      • December – Signing a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, for cooperation and management of cases of domestic violence.
    • 2018
      • January – The Association and its services are included in the ‘Risk Assessment Protocol for Cases of Violence Between Partners’, adopted and admitted for use by the Cyprus Police, thus satisfying the provisions of Laws 14 (III) / 2017 and 51 (I) / 2007.
      • March – Signing a cooperation protocol between the Youth Board of Cyprus and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, with a view to developing relations between the two organizations, for mutual benefit and for the benefit of society.
      • April – By decision of the Council of Ministers, on 07/03/2018, the Association participates with a representative at the “Council for the Implementation of the National Strategy for Combating Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography”.
      • July – Signing a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Justice and Public order and the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family, with a view to communicating and clarifying the actions of the Parties for cases of violence in the family and better cooperation between them.
      • September – The Association has been selected as a member of the Multidisciplinary Coordination Group against Trafficking (PSO) for a period of 2 years as defined by the Law.
      • October – The Association signs a three-year “Services Agreement of General Economic Interest (SGEI)” with the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance and is based on the State Aid Scheme of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, established under the Decision no. 2012 / 21EU and which has been approved by the Council of Ministers under the Decision no.75.154, dated on 29/5/2013 and revised on 6/9/2017. Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI) is a term used in Article 106 (2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and refers to services for which Member States attach public service obligations by criteria of general interest.
      • October – The Association signs cooperation with Μ.Μ.Α.Δ. and the Hostess and Crisis Dealer Group of the Cyprus Police, aiming to support the members of the Group of Dealing with Violence by experienced SPAVO professional psychologists.
      • November – The Association concludes with the Ministry of Education and Culture a process of enrollment / transcription of children: a) hosted in its Shelters and b) victims of domestic violence at Primary Schools and Kindergartens.
