Cyprus Film Classification Council

The Press and Information Office is entrusted with the task of coordinating matters pertaining to the classification of films to be screened in movie theaters in Cyprus.

Film classification is carried out by the Cyprus Film Classification Council, which is appointed by the Minister of the Interior for a term of five years and comprises 30 members representing various professional and social groups in Cyprus. The Council is chaired by the Director of the Press and Information Office and the Secretariat duties are carried out by the personnel of the Press and Information Office.

The Cyprus Film Classification Council classifies, based on specific criteria, the films that will be screened in movie theaters.

The Committee classifies the films in a specially designed Cinema Room at the Press and Information Office.

On the basis of the provisions of Article 3 (1) of the 2002 Cinema Filming Law, the Association has been a member of the Cyprus Film Classification Council since 2003.
